Having been locked in due to covid and winter between January 30th and February 20th, we really just wanted to hike. So, back to Horsethief because we knew we could get to the trail. Its a great trail, don’t get me wrong, and I am grateful to be any part of the Black Hills. Just you know, I would like to get to new trails too! That’s ok though! Horsethief didn’t let us down. Was still major ice, but we got past that part and were able to get a bit further into the hills this time.
The thing about horsethief is that no matter if you go left or right at the start of the loop, its basically uphill for a couple of miles. Not terribly, but enough that you feel it. It wears you out in the most glorious of ways.
This time, I got pictures of the kinda ice I have been talking about in the last couple of Horsethief Trail posts. Let me show you.
That’s not a river or something. That is pictures of the actual trail you have to walk on. Perhaps you can see why it takes so long to get a couple miles! 🙂 We did get by it though, and the trail deeper in was just muddy instead of iceland.
I will miss this place.
